The Long Lasting Benefits of Tuition Reduction Bill (SB 5954, 2015 Session)

Did you know tuition at the UW or any of our public four-year institutions is still less than it was five years ago?

Some cool facts stemming from the 2015 tuition reduction bill (which reduced tuition by 15% from the 2014-15 level at UW/WSU, 20% at other public four years, and capped future yearly growth at 2%):

  • A UW freshmen entering in 2015-16 and graduating this year would have saved:
    • $5,650 in tuition, compared to if tuition had remained flat at the 2014-15 level
    • $9,140 in tuition, compared to if tuition had grown by 2% a year since 2014-15
  • Tuition is not expected to return to the 2014-15 level until 2023-24, thanks to the yearly tuition cap in SB 5954 which is tied to the growth in the annual average wage.
