District Update: The Harvest is in!

We are done bringing in the wheat from the harvest.  The results were good.  I’m thankful to be able to bring in a better than average crop during a time when many growers around the country are dealing with drought.  In fact, the Northwest has been doing well with many types of crops this year (grapes, apples, cherries, and pears, to name a few) so we have the opportunity to fill in some of the gaps in our nation’s food supply.

I’m now back out there spending time planting for next year.  I hope it will be an even bigger opportunity for our district to help meet our country’s needs next year.

Also around the district: I enjoyed attending the Benton\Franklin county fair last week and am looking forward to those that are still upcoming. Local fairs like these are a great way for communities to come together and enjoy traditions as well as new experiences. Agriculture and livestock are important to fairs because they can give urban residents a glimpse of the rural industries that make up a significant portion of our economy here in Washington.
