Campaign Update!… And an update on the Two-Thirds Initiative

I might be busy around the farm, but I certainly enjoy getting around the district as well.  Here’s where I’ve been in the last few days:

  • Saturday before last I was at the EWU football game with my Dad as guests of President Arevallo (for the record, EWU beat Sacramento State).
  • Last week I spoke at the Tri-Cities Republican womens’ club
  • And last Tuesday I was at a water meeting at the John Stahl Farm with the Office of Columbia River Director.  I also went to a Farm Bureau forum in Othello.
  • Wednesday was a rural electric co-ops tour to Grand Coulee Dam

I continue to hear from people and organizations around the state that stand behind my campaign for re-election in the 9th District. I am more honored with each new endorsement.  Here are the latest:

  • The Teamsters Local 117, which is the representative body of over 16,000 working families from around the state.
  • I was also recently named a “Friend of the Farm Bureau,” which is awarded to legislators with an 80 percent or greater voting record on significant legislation as identified by the Washington Farm Bureau. The Farm Bureau represents 41,000 member families involved in the farming industry from around the State.

Update on the Two-Thirds Initiative:

Joining McKenna (and yours truly) on the ballot in November are a handful of initiatives, one of which we’ve seen several times. Initiative 1185, known as the “son of I-1053,” would reinstate the two-thirds super majority legislative vote requirement to raise or create new taxes. I’ve talked about the importance of maintaining voter accountability, especially when it comes to tax dollars, in previous newsletters. I found this recent news, however, to be noteworthy—Washingtonians are more supportive of the 2/3 majority requirement than they are of President Obama.

The Columbia Basin Herald also just endorsed Initiative 1185, making a strong argument for keeping government in check. Don’t forget the important ballot initiatives such as this one when you cast your vote!

Don’t Forget to Vote!

Don’t let your voice go unheard this November—make your government represent you.  Your vote is more important than you may think.
